Department of Defense awards USF professor $700,000 to study Kremlin propaganda and internet usage patterns among Russians
Professor in the School of Interdisciplinary Global Studies and director of the USF Institute for Russian, European and Eurasian Studies (IREES), Golfo Alexopoulos, has been awarded a $700,000 grant to study Russian speakers in online spaces, including Kremlin propaganda and internet usage patterns among Russians.
An oyster shell is worth a thousand words
USF College of Arts and Sciences applied anthropology doctoral candidate, Jaime Rogers, is the recipient of the 2023 Freeman Award in Public Archaeology. He will use his scholarship funds to further his geochemical analyses of oyster shells from several pre-Columbian sites in Tampa Bay, Florida鈥檚 largest estuary, to investigate oyster harvesting patterns and management systems through time.

Honeybees save USF student from allergies, now he鈥檚 returning the favor
Kobe Phillips developed a passion for honeybees after finding relief from his severe allergies by eating honey. At USF, Phillips is working on creating pollinator habitats using bio receptive sculptures and he plans to attend graduate school to focus on further developing these designs.

CAS teams join forces to digitally preserve a historically Black cemetery in Pasco County
The USF College of Arts and Sciences鈥� (CAS) Dr. Antoinette Jackson, anthropology chair and director of the Living Heritage Institute and Story Studio (LHI) and Black Cemetery Network (BCN), has joined forces with Dr. Davide Tanasi, history professor and director of the Institute for Digital Exploration (IDEx), to preserve Mt. Carmel Cemetery, a historically Black cemetery in Pasco County, via 3D digitization techniques.

Terrestrial Lidar Field Methods course digitally preserves Ybor City streetcars
Students taking the Terrestrial Lidar Field Methods course, led by College of Arts and Sciences Professor Steve Fernandez from the USF School of Public Affairs and Dr. Laura Harrison from the USF Access 3D Lab, are trained in methods of 3D architectural documentation with professional-grade lidar technology while also providing real-world experience in the field.
