The American Medical Informatics Association (AMIA) held its annual conference on November 15th-19th in Atlanta, Georgia. AMIA brings together health informaticians from around the world to share their research and ideas. The conference hosted around two thousand researchers and the theme of this year's conference was Modernizing Informatics Across the Spectrum: Research, Clinical, and Public Health Systems. Over the course of the three days, attendees had the opportunity to connect with and learn from colleagues and students working in biomedical informatics. The ݮƵ had several students present posters over the course of the three-day conference.
One of our recent graduates, Uloma Odigbo, even won a special recognition award for their poster, "Exploring Institutional Policies for Generative AI Integration in Health Informatics Education: A Structural and Thematic Analysis." USF student, Niveditha Chandrakanth’s poster was titled "Enhancing Patient Safety through Improved Imaging Contrast-related Adverse Event Documentation” and aimed to use case reports to create a comprehensive list of symptoms/signs, categorized by physiologic system from the Common Terminology Criteria for Adverse Events(CTCAE) to design a patient-engaged reporting tool. Recent USF Graduate Evan Ratkus, also presented a poster at the conference titled “Adaptation of IHI Triple Aim Framework to Reflect Need for Improved Documentation in Adverse Contrast Reactions” This poster synthesized the preliminary findings of a systematic review where Ratkus looked at contrast adverse event (CAE) management methods. Ratkus developed a CAE management roadmap to guide health providers in evidence-based decision-making management techniques at various stages of imaging.
The AMIA conference showcased research of top information professionals worldwide. AMIA 2026 will be in Dallas, Texas, from November 7th to the 11th. Overall, this year's conference was a successful event with incredible research by some of the country's top medical informaticians. We’re all looking forward to next year!
