Leury Peña, PhD, LMFT, is a Visiting Assistant Professor of Instruction with the Marriage and Family Therapy M.S. Program and the at the ²ÝÝ®ÊÓÆµ (USF). A licensed marriage and family therapist, Dr. Peña brings extensive experience in systemically focused, bilingual, and medically integrated care to her teaching, supervision, clinical practice, and professional service.
At USF, Dr. Peña teaches and provides clinical supervision to graduate students in the Marriage and Family Therapy program, fostering the development of ethical, competent, and culturally responsive practitioners. As part of her role with FCBHW, she supports statewide initiatives that strengthen the behavioral health workforce and expand pathways into the marriage and family therapy profession. Her work contributes directly to addressing Florida’s critical shortage of marriage and family therapists while promoting equitable access to mental health care across communities.
Dr. Peña’s doctoral research explored the experiences of parentification and the protective influence of familismo within the Latine community, underscoring her ongoing commitment to culturally responsive, systemic approaches that promote family and community well-being.
