USF students compete to launch experiments aboard the International Space Station

More than 3,700 students across North America competed to design experiments bound for the International Space Station through the Student Spaceflight Experiments Program (SSEP). This year, USF students joined the competition for the first time, rising to the challenge and uniting to bring their innovation into orbit.

USF Postdoctoral Researcher Prakirti Singh Earns Second Prize at 2025 AMPP Annual Conference

Prakirti Singh, a post-doctoral candidate in the Department of Chemical, Biological and Materials Engineering at USF, for earning second prize at the 2025 AMPP (Association for Materials Protection and Performance) Annual Conference. Singh presented research focused on materials protection and performance, competing among top doctoral students and industry professionals.

AAEES Honored Three USF Engineering Students and Alum

Three members of the ²ÝÝ®ÊÓÆµ community were honored by the American Academy of Environmental Engineers and Scientists for their achievements. Tione Grant received the 2024 EESF Scholarship, Bruno Mancini earned the 2025 W. Brewster Snow Award, and alumna Addie Buerck was named to the AAEES 40 Under 40 list. Additionally, Laura Gonzalez Rodriguez and her team won the 2025 E3S Design Prize, showcasing USF’s growing impact in environmental engineering and science.

John and Barbara Yellott Award for Graduate Solar Awarded to USF Engineering Student

Fernanda Silva Pimenta, a PhD candidate within the USF Department of Chemical and Biochemical Engineering, has been awarded the 2025 John and Barbara Yellott Award for Graduate Solar Research by the American Solar Energy Society (ASES). Her pioneering research in sustainable solar energy technologies and chemical engineering underscores her potential as a rising leader in renewable energy research.

USF Engineering Student Nolan Worley Accepted into FSU Summer REU Program

USF Industrial and Management Systems Engineering student Nolan Worley has been selected for Florida State University’s highly competitive Research Experience for Undergraduates (REU) program. A member of Dr. Zach Haber’s research group, Worley has contributed to innovative studies on Ultra High-Performance Concrete for bridge infrastructure. His acceptance into the REU program is a testament to his dedication and potential for a future in materials science and engineering.

USF Engineering Master’s Student Receives 2024–25 AAEES Foundation Scholarship

Tione Grant, a master’s student in the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering, was recognized at the 2025 American Academy of Environmental Engineers and Scientists Convocation and Celebration of Excellence on April 10 for receiving the 2024–25 American Academy of Environmental Scientists and Engineers AAEES Foundation Scholarship. The award supports students pursuing a master’s degree in environmental engineering or environmental science. Congratulations, Tione!
