About Us
The word "ombuds" (pronounced ahm-budz) originated when the Swedish Parliament instituted an Ombudsman in 1809 to be an independent observer of the government to safeguard citizens' rights.
Organizational ombuds work with individuals and groups in an organization to (1) provide a safe space to talk about an issue or concern, (2) explore options to help resolve conflicts, and (3) bring systemic concerns to the attention of the organization for resolution (). Many campuses, other government agencies, non-profit organizations, and corporations offer ombuds services.
All students on every USF campus have access to ombuds services. Contact us to schedule your appointment.
USF's Student Ombuds Office functions under the :
CONFIDENTIALITY: Concerns or information brought to the Ombuds Office will not be shared with anyone unless you give permission for it to be shared and the staff feels that sharing will help address your problem. The only instance where we would breech confidentiality is if someone poses a threat to themselves or to others.
IMPARTIALITY: The Ombuds Office does not advocate for individual students. Our staff considers the interests and concerns of all parties involved with the goal of achieving fair and equitable solutions.
INFORMALITY: The Ombuds Office cannot receive formal complaints or notice of claims against the University. The office does not arbitrate, adjudicate, or participate in any formal internal or external processes, including legal.
INDEPENDENCE: The Ombuds Office operates independently of other organizational units.
If you are a member of the USF faculty, staff, or administration and would like to schedule an appointment, please contact the USF Ombuds for Faculty, Staff and Administrators at (813) 974-7777.
